In October we went on our trip to Maroma. Finally! We originally booked it two years ago, but 2020 happened and it was pushed back a year. Kati and her husband Trevor had been to this resort before (3 times in fact) and knew Lauren and Derek would enjoy it. So it was booked — El Dorado Maroma…. Literally, paradise.

We arrived!! After a short 4 hour flight (just a few episodes of The Morning Show and one… or two mimosas). We were ready to vacay! Prior to Covid, we were both frequent travelers. Usually 2-3 (or more) trips a year. We love to explore and see different regions of the world. This trip was needed. And we were excited to have a few days to relax and enjoy each other’s company…. Oh ya, and celebrate Lauren’s birthday!

We flew into Cancun and then grabbed a cerveza for the road from a vendor outside of the airport (not driving, we had a car drive us to the resort). The drive was about an hour to the resort. Once we got there and checked in we were able to upgrade to a 4th floor ocean view room. Stunning. A lot of cardio, but stunning view. 🙂 They took our luggage to the room and we went to the restaurant on the beach for margaritas and guac. In that order.
After we got our rooms we explored the resort, it’s small and intimate — so beautiful! There is a small chapel on the grounds, two pools, 5 restaurants and a night club. It is also home to the palafitos… the over the water bungalows!
The view from our room was incredible. On a clear day you could see Cozumel in the distance. The rooms are amazing. Complete with a massive bathroom, outdoor shower, king size bed and sitting area. Oh ya — and private patio with our own pool!
While there we celebrated LAUREN!! It was her birthday and she deserved it all — we spent the day at the pool enjoyed many games of volleyball and also played cornhole. We (of course) had a few orders of chips/guac/salsa. It was the perfect day. For dinner we booked the restaurant at the palafitos. We sat in the room with the glass bottom floor. Legit glass under us. Looking into the ocean. Just, unreal.
As much as we wanted to relax on vacation, we loved and participated in all the activities they offered. 😆 Every single day we got roped into pool and beach volleyball. But to be fair, we didn’t put up a fight. It was so much fun. The staff was full of life and had tons of activities scheduled through out the day. They also had kayaks and snorkel gear that you could rent out and use whenever you wanted.

Right next door to our resort was Maroma Adventures. This is where you go if you are staying in the area and want to check out the excursions the area has to offer. You can swim with the dolphins, rent a jet ski or speedboat, ride horses or camels, schedule a fishing charter, etc. We decided to book a 1/2 day catamaran and snorkel tour. We went in the morning and it was about 4 hours. It started with a catamaran boat ride, and then we stopped at two different reefs to snorkel. The sea-life was beautiful. We swam with the fish and were able to swim through the beautiful reefs. We saw many varieties of fish, so vibrant and stunning.

El Dorado Maroma is spectacular. Sun, sand, pools, activities, amenities, and so much FUN! Everyday was an adventure, and we can’t wait to go back.
