School is almost out, the weather is warming up, and we look forward to spending time with our families this summer. Summertime is a great time to get your family photos taken because the outdoor color palette is gorgeous and the weather is less likely to be bad. Taking the pictures is only half the battle as you have to select coordinating outfits for your entire family beforehand. We know this can be tricky and overwhelming, so we are rounding up outfit options from some of our favorite retailers for your family.

Summer family photo outfits:
Our golden rule when selecting outfits for your family is to start with Mom. Choose an outfit that you feel comfortable and confident in, then plan everyone else’s outfit around yours. Mom is the one behind the camera capturing the photos most of the time, so planning a photoshoot with a photographer makes for an extra special memory for Mom to cherish.
You also want to avoid being too matchy-matchy, instead of matching patterns we recommend choosing a color palette and sticking to those few colors. For example, we put together the outfits above from Amazon using sage green, yellow and khaki colors. Notice how we didn’t put everyone in the same color. Mom and Dad have similar outfit choices going on in green while the kiddos are matching in yellow. This is a great way to break it up but still ensure everyone is coordinating together nicely in the photos.
Picking outfits that everyone can wear again is also crucial! You don’t want to buy an outfit that only gets worn once. We selected this super cute maxi dress for mom that she can rock all summer long. It is smocked on the top and will look very flattering on camera. We styled Dad in a casual button-down that he can wear all the time, this one is especially useful for vacations! The outfits for the kids can be re-worn on nicer occasions. We pulled a floral dress for your daughter and a matching yellow polo for your son.
Chambray and shades of blue are a popular color choice for photos in the summer because they will look great with the green outdoor hues. We kept this look a little more casual, which we know your family will probably love. If you’re more comfortable in pants, this jumpsuit is a beautiful color and is so soft and comfy.
