Looking for a fun weekend getaway with friends? We are sharing what we loved (and didn’t love) during our long weekend in Nashville!

A few years back, we had an opportunity to visit Nashville together for a quick work trip. The weekend was pretty packed with work commitments but we were able to get out for one night to check out the downtown area. After that night, we knew we needed to come back with our husbands for the live music, drinks, and atmosphere.

Kati’s husband, Trevor, turned 40 this year so of course we took this opportunity to plan a trip and celebrate all together in Nashville. Between sports and extracurricular activities with the kids, we found a long weekend and decided on a three-night getaway (which was the perfect amount of time!)

When planning our stay, we knew we wanted to be within walking distance to the downtown area and also wanted a direct flight. After doing some google research and reading a ton of reviews, we decided on the Cambria Hotel Nashville Downtown. Then it was time to check out flights. We looked around and found that Allegiant had direct flights and good times flying from Appleton, WI to Nashville, TN.

The hotel was perfect for everything (and more) that we wanted. It was about a 20 minute Uber ride from the airport. The staff was extremely friendly, the rooms were spacious and clean. It also had a coffee shop and delicious restaurant on one level and a bar on another with live music every night. Flying Allegiant was a quick, smooth flight with just enough time to catch up on a show with a drink in hand. Our flight was on time and even arrived early, so that was a win-win.

While visiting Nashville, we spent most of our time on Broadway. The weather was absolutely perfect (mid 70’s) so we tried to find spots with outdoor and rooftop space.  I think we all agreed, Honky Tonk Central was our favorite spot. They offered a full menu of food, cold drinks and great live music. We went back every single day because of the atmosphere and amazing bands/musicians. We also spent a lot of time at Kid Rock’s.  The music was great and we got seats upstairs so we could enjoy the warm weather and sunshine through the open air windows. Barstool Nashville was so fun, we spent a few hours here. They had incredible live music, great atmosphere and indoor/outdoor seating.  We also stopped in at Chief’s on Broadway, Jason Aldean’s and Miranda Lambert’s Casa Rosa.  Casa Rosa was so much fun, they had great live music on every level and the atmosphere was 100% our vibe. Chief’s and Jason Aldean’s were ok, they were very busy and a lot of stairs (a lot)… but it was the weekend so the crowds are to be expected.  We had so many recommendations for places to stop, and the most recommended spot was Acme Feed & Seed. Unfortunately, we were not impressed. The view up on the rooftop was amazing, but it was not busy at all and we had to wait a bit to get service, and they had a sewer problem… it was very stinky.  Another spot we stopped and wished we would have passed on was Coyote Ugly. We should have known when it was in the basement and a little sketchy from the get go, but it was not our style. One quick drink and we were ready to get back to live music!

We didn’t eat out too much, other than grabbing a bite to eat while we were bar hopping, but we did make a point to grab brunch.  If you aren’t aware, Nashville is known for their brunch spots and many take reservations weeks in advance.  We were hopeful we would be able to walk right up to The Pancake Pantry and get a table, but no such luck.  The line was literally down the block.  We settled on The Diner Nashville, which was right next door.  It was delicious, we all had breakfast sandwiches and mimosas. They had multiple floors, but because we didn’t have reservations they sat us at a bar on the 6th floor.  The view was great and it had a wonderful open air set up.  We also made a stop at the Fifth + Broadway Mall.  It was a phenomenal food court/food truck situation called “Assembly Food Hall”.  They offered something for everyone, from italian to sushi, barbeque to thai food. They offered indoor and outdoor seating, and it was kid friendly.  They had ample seating options and you could order at each individual restaurant or you could order at your table and it would be brought to you. This was perfect for us, we could order multiple options to share and try different cuisines.  On our last day we went back to Fifth + Broadway and ate at Hattie B’s Hot Chicken.  We were a little nervous when we walked up and saw the line out the restaurant and around the corner, but it only took about 20 minutes to get inside and order. It was delicious and we were able to find a table outside and enjoy the last few hours of sunshine on our Wisconsin skin.

One thing you will quickly see while on Broadway are all the party buses, wagons, tractors, etc. The minute we saw how much fun everyone was having, we knew that was exactly what we needed to do to celebrate Trevor’s birthday. We hopped onto good ole’ Google again and did some research. The company Nashville Biggest & Wildest Party Public Tractor Tour was the one we decided on. It was 1.5 hours with a full bar, light up dance floor and DJ. They played the best music, entertained us with drinking games, showed us around the town, etc. We even met some super fun ladies from Australia. The meeting point where you get on/off the tractors is a fun spot to have some drinks, listen to music, and play bean bag toss. They suggest you get there about 45 min before your departure time so we had some time to enjoy it. We did have to uber to and from the start and drop off point, but it was only about a 7 min ride. (We wouldn’t suggest walking because there were some questionable areas.)

Overall, we loved Nashville and would suggest it for any celebration or weekend away. Make sure you bring your rhinestone & fringe outfits, and your dancing shoes (or boots)!
